Reading: John 15:18-21
So many good people with good ideas fall by the wayside in political elections. Many of those who sound like real patriots, who seem sincerely interested in the good of us ordinary people, don’t get the votes they need to stay in the race. This seems to happen to people in all avenues of life when they try to do good for others. Seems like the devil is more often in control of the world than God is. What do you suppose would happen to Jesus if he ran for political office. Without doubt, he’d lose!
When you say things that make good sense, when you hear other people say things that make good sense, but find nobody seems to be listening, hear the words of Jesus down through the centuries:“If you find that the world hates you, know it has hated me before you. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own...but you do not belong to the world, I chose you out of the world.. .They will harry you as they harried me. They will respect your words as they respected mine. All this they will do to you because of my name, for they know nothing of him who sent me.”
Until the end of time many good people will be unsuccessful in our world — or it will seem that way. But remember. Christ seemed unsuccessful. People not only refused to listen to him, they assassinated him. But he rose. He was victorious over all that evil threw his way. Good always wins out. Good people go to heaven. So do good politicians, even when they experience nothing but hell here. Never give up doing good. The victory has already been won for you. Do your best in this world even when no one seems to be listening. God is always listening.
