BY OUR ACTIONS WE SHOW THAT WE BELIEVE

Reading: John 4:43-54
Experience makes believers out of all of us. Ever notice that people are not quick to believe the words and advice of others until they experience them first hand? How many students really listen to their teachers? How many children listen to their parents? How many young people listen to the old? Until they experience life for themselves!

The family of the royal official in our story became believers in Jesus only after he performed for them a miracle. Jesus had cured their son. What do the people of America need to help them believe in Jesus Christ. The Son of God became Man - the vast majority of Americans celebrate Christmas, his birthday. He died and rose for us. The vast majority of Americans plan to celebrate Easter, his resurrection. (Got your new Easter bonnet yet?)
How many of these people who celebrate Christmas and Easter really believe in Jesus Christ? How deeply do you and I believe? By our actions we show what we believe. Does it take a dreadful experience before most people really believe? Let us hope it isn’t hell that teaches us the lesson.

“Your son will live,” Jesus told the royal official. He was on his way home when his servants met him with the news that his boy was going to live. When he asked them at what time the boy had shown improvement, they told him, ‘The fever left him yesterday afternoon about one.’ It was at that very hour, the father realized, that Jesus had told him, ‘Your son is going to live.’ He and his whole household thereupon became believers.” Yes, experience is the best teacher. But let’s try to take a little more on faith. Let’s never doubt the words of Jesus Christ.
